A masonry unit is the wall-forming layer of a building. What separates the seven common types is not looks but four measurable things — compressive strength, water absorption, dry density and dimensional accuracy. Everything else follows from those.

The honest counterweight

None of this is frictionless. Clay brick still wins on upfront cost and buyer familiarity; AAC carries a water-absorption and fixing-hardware learning curve; masons need retraining for thin-bed work; and AAC coverage stays thin outside metro clusters. A primer that only lists tailwinds is a brochure.
