Where the value sits

Construction chemicals are formulation businesses, not commodity businesses. The value is in the recipe, the testing, the TDS, and the application support — not in the raw polymer. That's why branded products command a premium over unbranded alternatives.

Why application matters as much as product

A correctly formulated waterproofing membrane applied over a dusty, unsound substrate will still fail. Surface preparation, primer selection, mixing ratios, application method and curing window are all specified in the TDS for a reason.

Who owns which stage

The honest counterweight

Construction chemicals remain under-penetrated in India — most site teams still see them as optional extras, not design requirements. The unorganised sector sells cheap, non-compliant alternatives that undercut branded products. Application skill is scarce: even the right product fails if applied on a poorly prepped substrate, mixed wrong, or left uncured. Raw material costs (polymers, resins) are petrochem-linked and volatile. And unlike cement or steel, there is no mandatory BIS certification for most construction chemicals — so quality enforcement depends entirely on the specifier's discipline.
