Bihar is one of the fastest-growing states in India. The state's GSDP at current prices is projected to reach ₹10.97 trillion (US$ 128.89 billion) in 2025-26, expanding at a CAGR of 11.42% between 2015-16 and 2025-26. It boasts strong agricultural production, standing as the number one state in the eastern region, the fourth-largest producer of vegetables, and the eighth-largest producer of fruits nationally. Sugar remains its largest agro-based industry, with a cluster of primary operating plants including those run by the K.K. Birla Group, Riga Sugar, and Vishnu Sugar Mills. Furthermore, Bihar possesses a rich, cost-effective industrial labor pool alongside premier educational institutions like IIT Patna and NIT Patna supplying skilled manpower. The state has a total geographical area of 94,163 sq. km. and a total population of 128,500,364 with a density of 1,106 persons per sq. km. It is located in the eastern part of India and shares its borders with Nepal in the north, West Bengal in the east, Uttar Pradesh in the west, and Jharkhand in the south. Commonly spoken languages include Hindi, English, Urdu, Bhojpuri, Maithili, and Angika. Patna, Gaya, Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur, and Darbhanga are some of the key cities and major industrial hubs driving localized demand under the Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority (BIADA). The total length of the National Highways (NH) running through Bihar stood at 6,132 km as of December 2024, supported by 3,637 km of state highways and 16,296 km of major district roads. To aggressively strengthen regional connectivity, the State Government announced a ₹17,000 crore (US$ 1.92 billion) plan to build three major road corridors along the Ganga River under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM). Additionally, the central government approved ₹675 crore (US$ 76 million) for ten specific road projects across eight districts. Transit capex is expanding with 57 active railway projects worth ₹86,458 crore (US$ 10.16 billion) to double and construct 5,346 km of tracks alongside redeveloping 98 Amrit Bharat stations.
